About Overeaters Anonymous – Milwaukee Area Intergroup

The Milwaukee Area Intergroup of Overeaters Anonymous (OAMAI) is part of an organization that spans more than 80 countries with more than 54,000 members. Members of all weights and sizes can be found – including overweight, normal weight, and underweight – and all types of food compulsions and addictions. OA-MAI serves members who reside in the eastern half of Wisconsin including the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area, areas south to the state border and areas north to Green Bay and beyond. There are no fees or dues for members of OA, just a desire to recover from compulsive food behaviors. OA-MAI uses the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous (based on the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous).

Interviews and Anonymity

One of the traditions of OA states that members “maintain anonymity at the level of press, radio, film, television and other public media of communication.” This protects both the anonymity of individual members and of OA membership as a whole. The media is welcome to interview members about their experience, strength, and hope, and members of the press are asked to respect the anonymity of the program by using only first names or an alias if the member requests.

OA is not aligned with any public or private organization, political movement, ideology or religious doctrine and takes no position on outside issues. Therefore, members of the press are asked to refrain from questions beyond the scope of OA.

Periodically we will post press releases on this page which the media is welcome to use as a resource or print in their entirety. More resources, including a press kit, are available at the:
