Newcomers
Newcomer’s Welcome
Overeaters Anonymous works for each person from the inside out, and we find that OA’s “inside job” works wonders on our eating issues, whatever they may be. This inner work is outlined in our Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, Nine Tools of Recovery and in OA’s literature. While it takes time, effort and support to fully harvest the long-term recovery of OA, it takes only a little willingness and an open mind to begin the process and to see positive results.
MAI welcomes you with a selection of meaningful articles, prayers, definitions and explanations.
Find a Meeting
Meetings are one of several tools available to assist us. They give us an opportunity to identify our common problems, confirm our common solution, and share the gifts we receive. There are approximately 50 meetings in this area of OA and they are held every day of the week. The geographical area served by the Milwaukee Area Intergroup (MAI) includes Milwaukee and all of eastern Wisconsin from Green Bay and Oshkosh to Kenosha and Lake Geneva. We have meetings as far west as Wautoma and Watertown and as far north as Iron Mountain, MI. Additionally, there are online and telephone meetings. At all OA meetings there are no dues, fees or registration. We recommend calling the meeting contact person to confirm details.
Attend an Event
A prime component of all events is fellowship. Attendees have the opportunity to hear from abstinent speakers, meet members from other area meetings, experience new ways to approach their own recovery and gain new insights.
Milwaukee Area Intergroup holds several varied events throughout the year which are open to longtime members and newcomers, alike:
- Newcomers Workshops are designed especially for newcomers to OA and include speakers and Q & A. They’re held quarterly, often in Wauwatosa.
- Holiday and World Service Organization-sponsored events are located in and around Milwaukee and in other eastern Wisconsin communities.
- Workshops, Conventions, and Retreats occur annually.
Listen to a Podcast
Listen to the podcasts to learn you are not alone and there is hope for your recovery in OA. Recordings include virtual workshops on a variety of topics, information on working the 12 steps and inspirational messages from members who share their experience, strength, and hope to bring the Twelve-Step program of Overeaters Anonymous to life.
