OA Works Short- and Long-term
At times I couldn’t control how much I ate, and I kept repeating this over and over!
I was so weak at avoiding tempting foods like desserts and junk foods. And I hated being fat! Eventually I found out I needed help and I found the “help” that works for me.
During my 2nd pregnancy especially, I ate and gained weight like a crazy person. Afterwards, I tried and tried to lose that weight but I always failed and ended up feeling disappointed and ashamed… and continued to gain weight.
I went to my first meeting of OA one year after I answered “yes” to 14 of 15 questions that meant I might be a “compulsive overeater.” OA works simply for the short term – to bring food and eating into a healthy perspective. And it fixes me from the inside out for the long term – to maintain a healthy perspective about myself and my world.
OA is a community of people recovering from compulsive earing and compulsive food behaviors. It is not-for-profit, there are no dues or fees. There are meetings in the area including our neighborhood.
I met people who understood me, the depth of my problem, and they taught me how to deal with it from their own experience. You will, too.
OA works for Compulsive Eaters the way AA works for alcoholics. You can explore if OA is right for you or someone you know by visiting https://www.oamilwaukee.org/food/
